Brotherhood Cup 2016

By Anthony Beltrame.

Today we competed in the long awaited brotherhood cup. This is a soccer tournament between a group of the formation houses based here in Melbourne. We were set for a big day, after many practice sessions, team meetings and a big pre-match dinner the night before. An inspirational pre-game speech and blessing from Fr Rector got us off on our way as we began the day with an exciting one - nil victory over the Salesian's. The game was packed with fierce contents as the theme of brotherhood gained a slightly more competitive edge. Brilliant performances were turned in team wide but a definite highlight was Andrew Kwiatkowski's impressive goal in the first half. Next Corpus Christi played Yarra Theological Union (YTU) in its final game. This was a bitterly fought match with both teams giving everything they had. We got off to an early lead thanks once more to some Kwiatkowski brilliance, but unfortunately the game did not end off so well. Three second half goals from YTU ensured that this year would not be Corpus Christi's. A fantastic day was had by all, but I'm sure there will be some sore bodies tomorrow. A special thanks must also go to the Corpus Christi seminarians for the delicious lunch provided for the players and spectators. We look forward to battling it out again next year.
