New Beginnings

By Josh McDermid

One of the highlights of the seminary year is when we welcome our first-year students. On Sunday 18 February, the seminarians and staff of Corpus Christi College were delighted to receive Yousif Alkateb (Syriac Catholic Church), Ezekiel Bartlett (Archdiocese of Melbourne), and Dawn Saji (Syro-Malabar Eparchy of St Thomas the Apostle, Melbourne) into our community.

The new seminarians were greeted with an afternoon tea where they, along with families and friends, were able to see the seminary and meet one another, while the returning seminarians were on hand to make coffee and engage in conversation. Our rector, Fr Cameron Forbes, provided some words of welcome and reflections on the journey ahead. Family and friends then said their goodbyes and the day continued with the annual official photos, Solemn Vespers and a formal dinner, before the first years undertook the important rite of passage of signing the College Register, ensuring that their presence here at Corpus Christi is recorded for posterity.

We look forward to continuing to make these new brothers feel at home in our seminary community and seeing them grow as disciples of Christ as they discern God’s plan for their lives. We also ask for your continued prayers for them and for all the seminarians at Corpus Christi College.
