Ordination to Diaconate

By Anil Mascarehas

Ordination to the diaconate was a grace filled moment; a witness of how really God worked marvels for me in my journey towards priesthood. Now I have reached another important milestone – being conferred with the order of diaconate by committing myself completely to serve God and His People in a solemn ceremony at St Patrick’s Cathedral by His Grace Archbishop Denis J. Hart.

It has been both an exciting and a challenging journey of preparation, made possible only by God’s loving and merciful care. On this occasion I feel humble and filled with the deepest gratitude to God for giving me this call me to serve in this wonderful Archdiocese of Melbourne. I am grateful to my parents, family members, friends, seminary formators and all people of God whom I have met on my journey; you have helped me to grow in faith and nurtured my Vocation to the priesthood.

I express my sincere gratitude to His Grace the Archbishop for accepting me into this Archdiocese and for ordaining me a deacon. As I begin my ministry, I humbly ask your prayers and words of encouragement, so that God may use me in a special way to serve His people.
