Corpus Christi College narrowly lost the Brotherhood Cup final with a thrilling finish and a penalty shoot out against a team of Catholic Youth, who were crowned champions last Saturday.
The seminary soccer team won three of its games across the day in the four-game fixture to qualify for the final. There were wins against the Missionaries of God’s Love, the Salesians and Yarra Theological Union. The loss was against a team of Catholic Youth, who they met again in the final.
Fifth-year Melbourne seminarian, Tien Tran, was the most valuable player for Corpus Christi College.
Tuong Nguyen, who is a third-year Melbourne seminarian, captained the team.
“It was a great day,” he said.
“It’s a good to meet with other religious brothers.
“We had really good fun and got to know more people, even parishioners.”
Tuong was appreciative of the efforts, contribution and sacrifices made by all players in the seminary soccer team.
“They played with 100% effort for the College, even if they got injury,” he said.
“They tried to play with 100% energy.”
Staff of the affiliated seminaries and universities involved with the day, as well as family and friends of the players also supported the day.
The day was hosted by Salesian College in Chadstone.
